HATE-LESS Train the Trainer (3/4): Emotional Narratives & Media Influence

Following our first two HATE-LESS Train the Trainer sessions on Storytelling Through Space and Voices from the Margins, we are continuing the series with a new focus: how emotions and social media algorithms shape the way media messages are created, interpreted, shared, and amplified.

On Thursday, 4 June 2026, Evolutionary Archetypes Consulting SL (EAC) invites youth workers, trainers, educators, and facilitators to join the third session of the four-part HATE-LESS Train the Trainer series:

Emotional Narratives & Media Influence – How Emotions and Algorithms Shape Media

Media messages do not only inform us. They can also move us, trigger us, and influence what we choose to share. In online spaces, emotional content can spread quickly, especially when algorithms reward visibility, engagement, and reaction.

In this interactive online session, participants will explore how emotional narratives influence attention, interpretation, and digital behaviour. Using participatory approaches inspired by the HATE-LESS methodology and toolkit, youth workers will learn how to help young people recognise emotional dynamics in media and respond with awareness, empathy, and care.

Participants will also develop a short participatory video concept using emotion-based storytelling and values-based communication.

Missed the first two sessions? No problem – each workshop is designed to stand alone, although together they build a powerful toolkit for youth-centred media literacy and participatory storytelling.

What You Will Explore

During the session, participants will:

  • Learn how to guide young people in recognising emotional narratives in media
  • Explore how emotional content can influence attention, reactions, and visibility online
  • Reflect on how social media algorithms can amplify emotionally charged messages
  • Develop skills for facilitating non-formal media literacy activities with young people
  • Create a short participatory video concept using emotion-based storytelling
  • Engage with a ready-to-use training activity that can be adapted for youth work contexts

Why Join?

This session is designed for youth workers, trainers, educators, and facilitators who want to support young people in becoming more emotionally aware media users and more responsible digital storytellers.

By understanding how emotions and algorithms shape media influence, young people can move from passive reaction to active, values-based communication.

Each HATE-LESS Train the Trainer workshop can be attended individually, although together they build a broader toolkit for youth-centred media literacy, participatory storytelling, and counter-narrative creation.
